Default Need Engine Help

Hi im a new guy i got a 2000 XJ and my 4.0 engine is about to go looking to swap it out but need to know what years are compatable without have to mod anything thanks

stripped down to the block there all the same.

Close but not exactly. There may be some mounting bolt bosses missing from an older block. For instance an 89 block does not have the mounting bosses tapped for bolting the coil to the block that the 91 does.
The ignition on the 2000 changed to the coil pack and dropped the distruibuter so there may be some slight changes there too.
Why does your 2000 need a new engine? You shouldn't have that many miles on it.

it has almost 200k on it and it over heated last summer and went down hill from there has a bad lower end knock and has a bad lifer tick as well can a put a newer engine in it
