NEED ADVICE..... Swapping out my IDIOT light dash for one with GAUGES...
I have an 86XJ and wanna try and swap out the old IDIOT Lght instrument cluster for one with GAUGES.
Found a thread on another site with some helpful info but need to know which year instrument clusters wouyld be interchangable?
Also would the fact that mine has the 2.5l engine cause any problems with what the dash came out of?
Appreciate any and all help.

hi
I just swapped my cluster with a real one, however mine is a 4.0, not a 2.5
If you use a 4.0 cluster I will say, and that's kind of a guess, you will not have problems with temp, oil, fuel, voltage and speed readings, when it comes to the tach, I don't think is going to give you a true reading, it will be off as it will be expecting a 6 cyl reading instead of 4.
If you are lucky to get a cluster from a 2.5, then it should not be any major issue more than changing senders on the engine bay

I never changed out mine since the all had gauges and not the light. I do know that when you change them out you will also need to change out the sending units. I really don't know if the 4.0 and the 2.5 are inner changeable.

I'm aware that the sending units are different for the water temp and oil pressure. Not sure about the tach. Especially if i find one out of a six.
Anyone know what year they changed the cluster connections or where i could find out? Just wanna know what years I can pull one out of.
