Default Need advice new leaf springs or leaf helper??

I first of all want to say I am a rural mail carrier and I use my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited as a work truck, it is all stock except I put some 10 ply tires on it so I don't have flats all the time. I notice there is only about an inch of space between the tire and the fender I suppose my rear leafs are sagging. I have had some people suggest I should put a leaf helper kit on it that would help, I don't want to go spend the money on a leaf helper kit if it does not fix my problem though. I don't want to put a lift kit in it I just want something so when I load my jeep up with mail every time I hit a bump the tires don't rub the fenders. Any suggestions?

Jeep springs sag. If my xj was earning me a living like yours does, I'd invest in a pair of Old Man Emu 2" lift rear springs and call it a day.

Forget adding a leaf, forget stock springs. 10 plys are too tall. You could get away with JC Whitney stock springs if you had stock tires...but you don't.

If the car was a runabout, I'd put 2" lifter blocks in...but I'm talking about a runabout, not your delivery route vehicle. Do the right thing for the Jeep and it'll keep you safe and keep you working. I know you postal route guys dont have the job security you used to have.

Just my $.44 worth.

Gabriel or Monroe Air Shocks FTW. Cheap and effective.

X2 on this part. I wouldn't say 10 plys are too tall though and I'd definately never even consider blocks, especially on week springs.

I understand you don't want to lift your vehicle, but if you're hauling weight in the back that 2 inches back there will help alot.

No. I had the impression the Denver guy was buying a true ten ply truck tire - like a 31x10.50 - which is much taller than a 235/75. I might be wrong in that assumption...but in any case, if he's only got an inch of clearance, he needs some lift.

Why buy 10 ply? (Look, Mom, I made an alliteration.)

I have 235/75 15's 10 ply on there right now limited's came with 16" wheels but hard to find the size I needed in a heavy ply tire. The reason I buy 10 ply tires is I drive 30+ miles of gravel everyday, a set of brand new 10 ply tires last me 12,000-15,000 miles.

If it only sags under heavy load then maybe you could fit an air spring helper kit.

Why does the tire size make it a true 10 ply? So a 16 inch tire thats a 10 ply isn't a real 10 ply, you got me confused on this one,it makes no sense.

Monroe sensatrac load adjusting shocks. http://www.monroe.com/products/sensa...justshocks.asp
They have a coil spring wrapped around them, but not "coilovers" as by the latest definition of coilovers.
The brought my leafs back to life, by helping support the rear to the tune of around 3/4 inch.
I think they are around 100 bucks a pair.

Check out the heavy duty rear springs on Quadratec .com in the original suspention area. Get the Heavy duty 7 inch arch springs and you will be happy.Sorry I think I got some misspelling, before the grammer ****'s get me.NO air shocks to much stress on a small area, load lifters with the new springs fine. But you need new springs so it s done right.
