Mystery sound/vibe
A low thunking sound is coming from somewhere in my front end.
It's relative to road speed (faster&louder), shifting into Neutral makes it go away & hitting the brakes stops the thunking, but not the vibration. I can feel it in the pedals. Alignment/frame shop said the front end components looked fine. They couldn't make the sound happen, so I rode with the tech and it made it. They refused to charge me b/c they coudn't find anything causing it. I bought a transmission mount, but they said that mine was fine.
Attempts to fix this or related parts so far:
new steering stabilizer
new brake pads
new front U-joints
alignment adjustment
balance & rotation
grind & re-valve rims
new tires
In my PO's records, there is a brake job that includes "fixing" the steering knuckles before selling it. They welded them back up from the brake pads wearing them down.
The shop I went to (very good) said the knuckles and everything looked fine. This has been nagging me for months and it's obvious that something's out of whack. I'd love to just get a whole brake kit and steering knuckles, but I just spent $1700 on a cat, both O2's, hitch install & rear leafs! The (PO's) rust has made my labor bills multiply & many DIY's impossible.
Throw a crippled crab a crutch!
