Default MYSTERY CABLE

I remoived my windshield washer tank for the first time today and discovered an unattached cable (see attached pix). I can't find a related connector anywhere within its reach (everything underneath the tank is all connected). Anybody know what this connector is, where its receptacle is, and if it matters? Thanks.

What year jeep?
Have you traced where abouts it goes to?

Just spit balling here, but it might be a diagnostic connector, I don't know enough about jeeps (yet) to know what years had them and which didn't...

haaaaa... NO!
It has constant +12 in it with probably less than 1 amp admittable by the wire diameter, the light switch is in the light mount assembly.

The underhood inspection lamp that Fantic is refering to was an option and had a retractable light with a 20 foot cord for doing repairs at night. They are not very common, and even harder to find still in working conditon. I have one on my 89 that is broken, and picked one up in the jy that is missing the lamp assembly. Had to rebuild the inner workings of the unit so it would coil back up properly.

Meh... well, I tried. I'll just have to find something fun to rig up. Maybe a little fan for blowing air in my face when I'm working on it in the summer, haha...

*tries to think of fun things that only draw one amp...*

Actually that connector is not JUST for the reel-light.
It is simply an underhood light connector.
ANY OEM underhood light (fixed or reel) will clip into it.

Hey Fantic...Metropolis 2:Scenes from a Memory. Awesome Dream Theater album.
Mike Portnoy resides quite close to me.

If you havent guessed Im into DT.

If the Jeep is only lightly optioned you may find alot of dangling wires. The XJs are known for being wired for every option even if they were equiped with them. Works well if you want to add the parts/switches later.

Almost all modern cars are like that, it is cheaper to produce only one kind of wire harness that fits all than saving some money in copper.
