my gauges do not work?

my gauges do not work?
hello
OK i got a 1997 jeep Cherokee 2.8l turbo diesel.
my battery is stuff and i have to jump start it sometimes
i was on my way to by a new one and i had to do a jump start leaving my house so i did a reverse jump start.
i got the car going but my gauges for some reason are not working.
the lights, indicator, everything lights up just the arms(not sure what you would call them) are not working.
someone please help
