hey guys I’m new to forums and Cherokees I’m kinda on a budget so I’m doing small things like led bulbs last night I replaced the gauge cluster bulbs with blue led bulbs one bulb wouldn’t light up so I turned it 180 and it still wouldn’t light up I even put a bulb in from a different socket and it still wouldn’t illuminate so I took the gauge cluster out several times to see if I could get it to illuminate all of a sudden I went to go check it one final time and gauge cluster wouldn’t light up transfer case backlights and gear shift lights all wouldn’t light up I saw the fuse was blown so I bought a pack of 5a fuses from autozone for $5 and the fuse blew right after installing it I put a second one in just to make sure and it blew shortly after . Everything else is working fine it’s just the fuse keeps blowing is it something with the wiring maybe . Can I get some insight pls ?

When you pulled the cluster, did you check the wiring, or the connectors?

One side of fuse #6 is the headlight switch. On the other:

Instrument cluster
PRNDL illumination
4wd switch
A/C heater control
Radio
Rear wiper/washer switch
Rear window defogger switch
Fog lamp switch

Not much help, but it gives you somewhere to start. Sort of. Do you have the FSM for a 99 XJ?

no I don’t and I haven’t checked the wiring yet or connectors but I believe atm for the problem to be a lose wire

You have a short somewhere.
If you have an aftermarket radio, check the orange illumination wire - it was not connected in my Jeep and would short out every now and then blowing the fuse. Took me a while to find it

Regardless, you have a short somewhere. Do not put a bigger fuse than 5 amps in as the illumination wiring is really thin and could go up in smoke if you still have a short
