My 1st tune up.......
So i bought my 1st jeep about a few months ago. A '98 XJ, swapped out my stock leaky radiator with a new one, installed a 5.5" Iron Rock Off road Critical path long arm suspension, slapped on some home fab-ed after market bumpers front and rear, rigged up an aluminum roof rack, put on a nice set of 2001 Cherokee classic wheels and finished her off with some tried and true 285/75R16 BFG KM2s. And i did all the work myself along with my brother and some buddies of mine. BUT i have yet to do my 1st tune up!!!
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated !!! What spark plugs, wiring, cap n rotor, oil, oil filter, fuel filter and maybe air filter would you guys recommend ???

If you can do all that work yourself, a tune up will be a cakewalk.
Spark plugs - Champion Coppers
Wires - 8 mm wire from summitracing.com
Cap - Get one with brass contacts from your auto parts store
Rotor - Get whatever one they have from the parts store
Oil filter - Avoid Fram
Fuel filter - whatever the parts store has
Air filter - You could always upgrade to a drop in K&N filter. Otherwise, any brand will do
Oil - Really depends. I'd read up on that. There are 1000s of differing opinions

As far as oil what weight would y'all recommend? I get a lot of back and forth on this at the local parts stores. And iv heard some good stuff about synthetic. What are yall's thoughts on synthetic? The odometer reads 246,534 but that's from the original engine, the block and intake has numbers written on there from a junk yard so i don't think that's an accurate reading.

And bought Champion Copper plugs separately. And have extra Accel copper plugs laying around. Probably will never use em though.

Fuel filter? I was under the impression that those were located in the gas tank and a real pain in the *** to replace.

I definitely would not. You'd risk putting in a part that is faulty right out of the box. Then you'd throw your old one back on and be sad when thinking about all the other things you could have invested $100 in.

Thanks, I didn't know about that fuel filter thing, haven't really checked into the mechanical stuff. I feel Kind of stupid for jumping right in to all the good stuff and never thinking about the straight six being up to par. But She still PULLS pretty hard. What do y'all think about fuel, oil, and radiator fluid additives? Should i drop those in along with the tune up? Would it make ANY difference in the I6 or is it just a waste of money? Again any opinion is GREATLY appreciated!
