Default Muffler split in half, catilytic converter rusted

Well mine are. The muffler is pretty much split in half and has rust holes through it and the CC just has holes in it. It really sucks, sounds like crap and hinders performance. But my dad doesn't seem to think I need new ones.

How can I convince him? He wants me to use exhaust tape/ putty??? Would that be acceptable?

Well it might work fine, but it is a complete PITA to put exhaust putty on any decent sized rust-hole.

have you priced new stuff? cats arent cheap. I know magnaflow makes cats now but I have heard they aren't the greatest. I found a receipt in my XJ for a new cat installed and it was over 400 bucks.

tell him your jeep wont pass inspection haha. i duno if you need a cat where you live but i know i need one here. seems like it would be better in the long run to just replace it though. maybe look for one at a local JY, i can't talk from experience becuase i've never priced them.

magnaflow high-flows are cheap..like $60 i think. if you have no inspections, and your jeep is pre-97..theres no o2 sensor after the cat and you can take it off and put a cherrybomb on. it actually sounds good. its loud but good. and people will chime in and say its bad for the environment but if its rusted through as is, cant be any worse..haha
