I have taking off two stock exhaust systems within the last week and I was not able to just take it off. I had to get the angle grinder out and cut where it was supposed to come off.

Yesterday I installed a walker cat and a Dynomax Super turbo cat back system in about 2 hours. Removed all U bolts, then I used a sawzall to cut mine in front of the cat (close as I could to the weld to preserve the pipe) then did a cut by the rear of the muffler, removed tailpipe, muffler and cat, then did a cross-cut on the remaining pipe overlaying the pipe from the manifold. Was super cautious not to cut the pipe from the manifold. I also had a BFhammer, vice-grips, and Sili Kroil (spray lube) that I used to no avail before the cuttings. Soooo, long story short, best bet is to cut!Hope this helps!!
