I put in Mobil1 synthetic. The manual recommended Dex II or Mercon, the Mobile1 was Mercon compatible. No issues so far, but I'll keep an eye on it.
this isn't that war. it's simple fact that 99% of people with Aisin Warner 4 auto transmissions experience various issues, including decrease of mpg, excessive wear, and outright failure, after switching to synthetic.Originally Posted by vespa50sp

there are 1% who have luck with it. me, I'll stick with the rest of them. it's cheaper, and better to run.
and btw, I'll have to get you a breakdown of what actually is in Mobil 1 synthetics. I used to swear by them...now, I won't touch it. you're buying a brand name. and a crappy one at that. there are many many many more less expensive synthetics and almost all are more high quality. hell, quaker state's chemical breakdown proves it's better than mobil 1...and it's redneck garbage.

and btw...I DO run synthetics in my engine (currently amsoil as my dealer was out of town for the oil I normally use) and diffs (amsoil). dino oil in the t-case, and a blend by Redline in my ax15 manual. auto's i stick with factory specs in an xj, and I don't even bother with a zj or wj (what's the point...it's gonna break no matter what I do lol)
I'll probably replace the synthetic in the tranny with dino at some point soon, but it's running OK and the garage floor is cold and it's almost Christmas.

390,000 miles on my AW 4 with only Dexron 3 ever. Swap out the pan oil (3/4 gallon every third oil change.)

Beware buying “genuine” parts off of eBay and Amazon. So many fakes. It’s very difficult to tell the differences in packaging from the fake and OEM but there is always a couple telltales.
