Default Mopar oil filter same as Purolator

Went to Walmart today to get oil filter and oil for my Cherokee and noticed that they are now selling Purolator Classic oil filters, as they are the OEM supplier to Mopar in the US I was interested to see what the extra money bought you for the Mopar. I closely examined both filters and they where identical in every aspect except the Mopar was painted black and the Purolator was painted white, same anti drain valve, same casing, same metal end caps - unlike the Fram filters.
Just thought I would mention this as times are tight and it saves a few dollars.

I agree, I prefer the Mopar filter but I cant ever get it on so that the logo on it is visible from the top!

Both are made by Champion Laboratories. Good filters, but WIX is better.

There is a quite in depth article on this subject here :-

http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oil.../opinions.html

Seems that Mopar filters have been supplied by a few different manufacturers, I had a champion labs one on previous to the Mopar I just took off - it is different than the Purolator/ Current Mopar I was looking at today.

The WIX is also one I considered but was too lazy to go to NAPA and get one!

I suppose if you avoid the FRAM filters with the cardboard ends the rest is just a matter of how much you want to spend - or if someone can explain how to fit the Mopar filter so the logo is showing (do I start screwing it on the the logo showing and it will finish up in the same place??!)

Just cut the old Mopar filter up and hot glue the logo on the newly installed filter. This also works if you're embarrased about your Fram filter.
