Jeep knock 3: https://youtu.be/UJPYnFbl3Jc

Nothing from exhaust is rubbing. tranny mount could prob use a new one. It's slightly soft in the front and driver side engine mount is definitely shot.
This is my knock. Sounds like it's coming from bellhousing or back end of block. When the engine is cold, no knock - after 2min it starts sounding like this. I have another thread with more info that no one has posted to yet. I really need help on this!

Think I should just replace my engine and tran mounts to see if that helps? Im sure it's sagging a bit on the drivers side cause that bushing is shot... maybe causing timing to be off?

Agreed?
The passenger side bolt above the starter is gone. just noticed... napa here I come.
Again, think it would be good to do the mounts asap?

Knock is gone with that second bolt in and secure! It was the identical bolt from my original picture only on the passenger side. I guess my bellhousing was rattling against the back of the motor.
I picked up motor mounts while I was at napa. Thanks again you guys!

And another one?! Chrysler must have forgot thread lock on these bolts for my bellhousing.... the tapping came back a bit so I got under to snug them up in case and found this gem. It's just above the shifter cable.

Is there a thread lock which is better than another? I cleaned the inside of the bolt holes as best I could with pipe cleaners. But I don't want these to back out again - I used a bit of high temp permatex thread lock on the 2 lower bolts but I don't know how well it cured if it was all greasy..

The rattling came back. Same as before: intermittent, goes away in gear at 1100rpm+. I changed motor mounts, snugged up all the bolts I could get to on the bellhousing (except the e12s on top) and preparing to do trans mount. I doubled checked flexplate and bolts - motor running and off; all seems tight and no cracks.
Exhaust seems snug..clearance and such seems ok. But the sound is definitely from the bellhousing area. Ive spent so much time poking around under the xj to get anywhere on this rattle - can the torque converter crack?

Next step, trans mount and see if that does anything.
Any ideas is greatly appreciated!

Nothing you have to be concerned about. That's a threaded hole for one of the bolts that hold the bell housing to the transmission. The bolts are installed from inside the bell housing. That bolt was just shorter than the hole.

Yes it can crack (very common). Radial cracks extending outward from the crankshaft and circumferential cracking around the crankshaft flange (hard to see). Cruiser54 has a link to the method of how to determine if these cracks exist.

Next step, trans mount and see if that does anything.
Any ideas is greatly appreciated!

Here's a pic that shows the circumferential cracks.

Thanks. I guess I'll keep inspecting the flexplate, which is what I thought it was initially.

The flexplate bolts to the torque converter, correct? Or are they 2 different units?

Read up on the link. I guess if I loosen the flexplate and find that it is in fact broken, I can't bolt it back on and wait to have time to drop the trans? Geez, this is the worst situation for me at the moment and probably out of my league for my novice mechanic skills.
