Default Is the metal hose from exhaust manifold necessary?

First thing first, this is my first post here . I've been browsing the forums ever since I got my 89 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 with a 5 speed manual. I swear that I'm not a creeper .

My jeep runs great for the most part. Idles a little high while it's at operating temp *about 1200 rpms at most* but idles below 1000 when I first start her up in the morning. I'm looking to replace my TPS once I get the money.

My main question is this. The "hose??" that comes off of the exhaust manifold and plugs into the air box is not only distorted but also loves to hug my electric fan. Makes running the AC or reaching 210 a noisy experience. Is that hose necessary? I live in Kansas City, so hot summers and cold winters. If I remove that hose, will my idle race during winter time? Thanks for the info! You all rock!

gonna need some pics but sounds like its the hose that send warm air into the air box to help warm up engine in cold weather,as for the idle search cleaning the iac motor

I live in Joplin and mine is broke but hasn't affected it. But I do have a issue, when I take off from a start it wants to cut out. Can't figure out what the deal is. Mines automatic.

Thanks for the reply. I've already cleaned the IAC and she tests out great. Yes it is the hose that sends heat to the airbox. I just wasn't sure *been searching for hours* if removing the hose would have any detrimental effects.

90xjcjf, how are you all recovering? I have a friend who grew up in Greensburg Ks and I rode out there with him when the tornado hit that town. Hope everything is well for you all!

I removed mine and had no issues. Also for the idle issue make sure that the intake/manifold bolts are tight. 9/16 and check them. The come loose over time.

Thank you all for the info. I've replaced all the vacuum lines *even the two from the top of the fuel tank* The old owner neglected to tell me that the old fuel tank had a leak right at a quarter tank. Found that one out 60 bucks later. He also wired up my fuel sending unit wrong *empty = full, and full + empty* Givin the fact that the new pump is an airtex. I'm waiting for the day that she fails to fix it. The only hose I have left to replace is the front hose on the valve cover that's apart of the CCV system. The one towards the rear got replace *I also cleaned out the vacuum hookup that goes into the intake*

Yeah it's getting better here. I did meet some local wheelers that have a club called brush beaters during all the clean up. Just gonna take time to rebuild the town. Thank god my house didn't get destroyed. And from
The looks of the mess we r lucky we don't have a few thousand fatalities. Just wish we didn't have any at all. Hope ur rig works out brotha.

Took mine off and never looked back. If you put an intake on it it won't even have a provision for it. Plus a lot of times the plate that regulates the hot and cold air sticks and you end up sucking hot air all the time. In that case you're much better off without it.

The previous owner wrecked the jeep. I have the replacement bumper that I'm too lazy to put on. It's funny that you mention that vacuum ball because I don't have one. I have the two lines plugged. I've been trying like hell to find a replacement. She will only blow on defrost and will not change from cold to hot. The vacuum hoses on the front diff are in excellent shape!

Yes, the vacuum lines to the T-case are good. Looks like I'm going to pick in pull to find a vacuum canister!
