Hi,
I know the year of the engine but I'm curious what the numbers 775 above the date mean. Anyone know? Thanks

Could be 77th day of the year? 5th hour?
It's possible. The build date on the jeep was 4/99 so I guess its possible. Just curious. Thanks

Ive wondered what those #s meant myself. Ive seen this asked elsewhere, but the only part anyone seems to know for sure (date wise) was the year. The examples ive seen posted and how they were assumed to breakdown dont work here. One was 7808, and one suggested 08/8/97. But here, the 77 or 75, depending how you read it, doesnt work. Unless 77 or 75 is the day. But....
If that 5 is the month for the engine, that would be May. That could work with the build date of the Jeep, but that still leaves a 77. If a 7 was the month, that doesnt make sense as that would be July. And that still leaves 75.
It must mean something else. But what? Its an odd place to put a check digit, or even a rotation #. Or is each digit read on its own, like so...
9 = year
7 = ?
7 = ?
5 = May
Another question ive had was, should the sequential build # match the vehicle VIN? If the #s should match, but dont, the valve cover was replaced, and the date on the label wont fit the vehicles build. If thats even an issue figuring this out.
I have no idea here. Im just thinking out loud with this.

If the build date for the Jeep was 4/99, which would be April, the engine, according to the 77 or 75, would be March 16 and 18, respectively. If thats what those #s really mean, the engine wouldve sitting for 3-4 weeks. Thats an eternity. Was there a strike? Google is being stupid this morning and it isnt giving me much.Originally Posted by missedbass
