Manual window conversion
I have a 92 XJ that has those ungodly slow automatic windows. I'd like to convert them to the manual crank windows. Does anyone know if its just bolt on or do I have to buy new doors? Any suggestions or pics would be great.

Take out your power window cable and grease the hell out of it. I bet that fixes it.
Manual windows will seize up also due to the lack of lubrication.

Find donor mechanisms, and bolt out and in.
I went the other way around, had manuals and a friend that part out his XJ let me pulled the electric mechanisms, easy, everything will fit right in, you will need the door panels as well (if you want it to look good)

Manual to elecyric
Saw your comment on changing to electric windows. I got everything from a 94 xj. Door panels motors and cables and wiring. But I noticed my doors already have some wires running into them. I have a 91 xj. Is it possible I already have the wiring in my 91 ? I thought I would have to run all the wires and stuff. Did they just install everything even if manual windows were installed ?

If they followed the same ideas as the rest of the wiring harness the plugs and wiring for every option available are there its just that some are not used.

Great
I sure hope so. I got all the wiring from the donned car and wow, there's alot of it. I assumed I had the wiring already, I mean I already have wires run into my doors but my doors are all manual. Thanks for the input. When I finish my upgrade to electric windows I will post the job. I might make a video or snapshots of the procedure as I go through it. Thanks again.

FYI, I saw something somewhere...said....the "distribution" of power for the windows is in the passenger door. The power to that is routed all over, so the voltage can end up low. The cure was to rout a new wire right from bat pos to that (group of relays?) in the passenger door. (presumably fused at the battery). Cruiser might have a link somewhere.

well I startted converting my manual windows to electric today. found that the plugs for the door harnesses ar NOT included in the interior harness in my 91...SO...I have to remove all the plastic trim that runs along the bottom and change out the complete harness from the doner 94 into my 91. man this is turning out to be a PIMA...But the drivers electric will work, but I had to jump a ground to the ground wire in the harness , but, I will get it done, just takes a day to remove everything and sort things out.
will post photos as I go along...

well I decided to only convert the front windows to electric. there is a harness that runs from the drivers kick panel to the pass. side under the dash. this is pretty easy, just zip tie it up to something. there is a brown wire with a connector that plugs into the fuse block and it only goes into one slot.( that's the 12 volt source) the regulators will bolt into the windows and plug into the harness and work fine. the BACK door windows will require me to change the complete inside harnesses ( 3 of them) because the harness installed does NOT have to connections needed for the back doors. that is a very big job and I don't want to tackle it. this is my DD and I can't make it non opp with long harness's laying everywhere. so I will have front electrics and rear manuals....one of a kind.
