Default manual valve body???

Alright guys I just got into the jeep world and I don't know a lot about them. the problem I am having is that the kid I got the xj from said it had a manual valve body istalled and I would have to manually shift it. I have searched and founf no info on it. Has anyone ever heard of this before? If not what could be wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I've ran three autos with manual valve bodies in 4x4s that I used mainly for trails. It is so you can choose the gear you want for the obstacle you are on.
Mostly you can lock it in low gear for climbs or descents when you need slow wheel speed and torque.

Ok so changing back should be as simple as finding a replacement valve body and installing it right?

Better ask someone that knows how to rebuild the AW4 transmission. ( I'm not a transmission builder, I have mine built. )

personally i would leave it because it will make ur tranny last longer and i more fun. it will also be a lot better off road or towing because you control what gear it is in. if it actual has a manual valve body i would leave it but if it is electronically controlled shifting i would bring it back to stock and then put a manual valve body in it. if you could post a picture of the shifter that would be cool.
