I have 2 88 cherokees now. Both with the 4.0- one has the aw4 and one is the pukegoat 5 speed... The one with the 5 speed is nicer cosmetically and also the interior is nicer. I am considering swapping the auto transmission in it. Is this a hard swap? what is involved? The gauge clusters in the 5 speed have a tach and actual gauges whereas the jeep with the auto has no tach and warning lights only.... ??

I have seen a lot of write ups for going auto to manual but none for manual to auto

 

If you can go from auto to manual, then you can go from manual to auto. You just need to swap over all the necessary parts.

Are they both 4x4?

 

Yeah ..

 

But I just need to know the more technical side- is the t case the same, will the gauge cluster interchange... etc.. will I have to cut the floor to operate the auto shifter.. ?
