Default low washer fluid light on

obviously this is a problem because there isn't low fluid. I thought that it would stand to reason that if I jumpered the sensor with a small piece of wire that it would fool it into thinking the level was ok but this didn't work. I don't know where in the circuit I need to repair. I'd hate to buy a whole new reservoir if the problem is simpler than that.

any suggestions?

Gently take out the sensor shaft from the reservoir. Make sure the foam float is still on the shaft arm. It may be floating around in the fluid.

If that is the case, fish it out, let it dry, and use some waterproof adhesive to reattach it to the float arm.

I had this same problem bought another float from the Junk yard but still had the problem. The way I fixed mine was not by jumping it with a wire but just the opposite. Just unplug the wires from the float. Your light will turn off. It does not need to be just but rather not connected. I leave mine unplugged and do not ever have any problems. Hope that helps

Use some rubbing alchohol to clean the float and the rod it moves on. Rain-X washer fluid will leave an orange residue that jams up the float/switch mechanisim.

or just unplug it. Mine was unplugged when i got it but after cleaning the float it works. Except it turns the light on at about 1/3rd of the tank remaining. especially on turns and bumps.

Unplugging it is ok but ever since my wife got her 90 Dakota and I got my XJ I love that light.

My grand am would always run dry right when I needed it the most!

thanks. I'll try the cleaning first, then the unplugging, then smashing the dashboard... haha.
