low pinion dana 30 question
I have a 2000 xj and am looking at puting a 4.5" lift with 32'S but im concerned from reading some of the posts about the weakness of the low pinion dana 30. Im not doing any rock crawling but I would like to think that it could handle some rough terrain if the situation arises. would this be a problem down the road?
i also would like some input on what other necessities or good add on's i might need with a 4.5" lift such as brake line extensions, drop pitman, SYE ect. thanks

Well i have the same exact set-up that you are going after. I have a RC 4.5" lift and 32's. And the Dreaded LPD30. I don't do any rock crawling either, but i haven't had any issues with mine. I do the occasional mud hole, tricky trails, and ive spent many weekends at silver lake sand dunes beating the holy hell out if it in 4HI. I still haven't had any issues.
Now as the lift goes. First thing, DO NOT GET AAL!! Make sure you get the full spring packs! I bought SS brake lines for mine, so they are long enough for a 6.5" lift now. Also if you plan on going bigger down the road. it might be wise to by a 4.5" leaf pack so that way you just have to buy shackles down the road. RC make some nice "X-Flex" control arms. I have the uppers and lowers and havent had a problem with them and the flex like crazy.

As for the LPD30 you should be fine, the biggest issue with it is having the driveshaft and pinion dragged across stuff, if you plan on getting into serious wheeling just do a swap from a 96-98 XJ. Wouldn't cost but $250 max at a JY.
with 4.5" of lift you should start looking into extended brake lines, considering an SYE, and upgrading all your steering parts for the inevitable larger tires you'll be getting. You don't need to worry about a drop pitman arm&trackbar relocation bracket.
