Loud Whistling noise! please help
#16
I think I found it.
I had the same problem with my 2000 XJ. Could never figure it out, vacuum gauges, starting spray, brake cleaner, nothing would point to the source of the whistle. I just lived with it as embarrassing as it was.
Changed out my injectors and it went away briefly, Changed the fuel pump and its gone for good now. must be some weird low pressure restriction that makes it whistle.
plenty cold here in North Dakota so its been an ongoing issue.
Hope this helps.

Good. Cheap fix. If you can get the old idler pulley back and have a new bearing put in it. Or do it yourself. I have my original MOPAR pulley on the shelf now as a spare. Bearing cost me a few bucks and about 2 minutes of my time to press the old one out and new bearing in.
