Hey fellow Jeepers, I was in the process of reconnecting my drivers side speaker wires which had fallen loose when I foolishly pried away the power windows/locks power plug with a screw driver. The radio I had playing immediately shut off as did power to my aftermarket single DIN receiver. The check engine light also turned on. (Never in the life of the car has the check engine light come on) I checked the fuses and none are apparently blown by what I can tell. I'm really not very mechanically inclined, especially so when you throw electronics into the mix! Any ideas suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance

 

Fuse 2 in the fusebox under the dash is for the radio and windows. 6 is a self-resetting circuit breaker for the power windows. 12 is the power locks. Possibly a blown fuse in the underhood power distribution center?

 

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll have to check those fuses out. The underhood power distribution center? I'm not familiar with which one in the fuse box that one is...

 

There a fusebox under the hood, commonly called the Power Distribution Center or PDC. Has some relays and some of the larger fuses.

I would suggest one or more fuse is blown

and will give the same advice I giver to every XJ owner, especially 1996 models, which have unusual fuse positions

Check both ends of every fuse, both in the engine fusebox, and especially the under dash one, near your outside knee

To to the under dash one, you will need a light to illuminate, a mirror to look up, and a test light, available at any auto parts store for ~$10
