Question Losing Oil 2000 jeep cherokee laredo V8

Used 5 qts oil on 600 mile trip. Just bought jeep. everything dry of oil with no indication of oil blowby or usage. Tailpipe clean and underneath also clean. Only one spot about 6" square where oil is present...a little behind and above the oil filter where a bolt goes into block holding a 2 wire connection on a cable that runs to top of engine. Assuming to the sending unit?? Wish someone would tell me what this is and how to replace it. Need help for I am 600 miles from home.

its your oil pressure sending unit most likley.....but if you lost 5 quarts there should be some indication of where it went if it was leaking.......further back on tranny and tcase.....on your starter.....oil spots on your back window...something...if not i would assume your rings are messed up and its eating all that oil. in that case add a quart every 75-100 miles and drive that puppy home...have aaa's number on hand though!!

You have an answer Jesus if that is not sufficient then wait for others. XJBones was not being disrespectful. He was pointing out the possibility that you have a badly worn set of piston rings which may indicate a rebuild is due in the very near future.

i would say im 99% sure its the sending unit....i mean its the cheapest easiest solution (unless its coming from around the oil filter) to do...its 15 bucks or so at your local parts story, and its as easy as unhooking it from its holster, or housing or what ever you want to call it

like bones said, however, if its leaking that bad, there should be a pretty evident visable leak...

if nothing else, after you fill it up with oil, let it run for a while outside in your drive, and check it out later to see where its dripping...if its coming from the right side of the engine, in front of the oil filter, then its probably the sending unit

i had one go out on one of my jeeps, but when mine went out, it really went out....i lost all my oil...i filled it up, let it run for 3 minutes, and when i came back out and checked on it, all 5 quarts that i just put back in, was laying under the jeep....so mine was pretty obvious..lol

I understand some do not have issues with cursing and I sure don't but I do how ever have issues with my children reading it as I am sure other parents do as well. With that being said in the open forum areas we have rules about use of curse/fowl words. This rule has nothing to do with religious beliefs but has to do with maintaining a family friendly forum for all ages.

You can reference the rules here.. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/announcement-please-read-updated-2-3-2023-cherokeeforum-com-rules/

I dont see any bad language in any of the original posts.

I think that guy saw all of XJBONES (........) as deleted curse words.

Failure of interpretation.

There was one word I edited out that went around the word censor that represented a curse word that's why you don't see.. I don't make those sort of posts unless it either exists or existed and was edited out. Just posted a friendly reminder..
