Hey guys, I'm in need of some advice here. I've had enough of the shaking and rattling and popping on these Michigan roads that I have to get this fixed. I need to know if I should get a new joint and replace the entire thing, or if I can just tighten it and it'll be all good. I've looked at it when I was under the car and had someone wiggle the steering and found that the ball joint end, which connects the track arm to the frame, had a good amount of play in it and the little silver post would wiggle with it. that makes me believe that the joint itself or the seal may still be good, but I could be wrong. If you have any advice, please let me know so I can keep my sanity, thank you!

 

The track bar mount bracket looks pretty shot, and if the hole through which the balljoint on the TB goes is elongated or enlargened you will have problems. The mount can get loose too and cause problems.

Inspect that bracket with the TB removed and evaluate the TB too while you have it off. The TB is not that expensive...but I don't know about the bracket.

 

By the looks of the pic, you're going to need both the bracket and the bar. I only say this because it's a critical component for the steering system. Take a look at some of the after market soultions. They are worth the price. A lot beefier than stock. I went with an Iron rock adjustable unit. There are a ton of others.

The hardest part of the job is removing the old stuff. New stuff will bolt right in quick.

 

When installed correctly, front suspension components do not loosen up. Therefore, if it's loose, it requires replacement. There's nothing to tighten up or tighten down.

You should be able to get a good, Moog replacement track bar at any auto parts store. As mentioned above, aftermarket/performance parts are another option. Just don't get the cheapest thing available.

 

My track bar was making noise on the frame end also. Turns out that the nu was never torqued up by the previous owner. Replacing your bar & mount looks like a good way to fix it right......
