Loose steering on my 1997 Cherokee Country
There is play in the steering wheel, so much that I can almost turn it about 45 degrees in both directions before it actually turns the wheels. Also to go straight in the car you have to have the wheel turned slightly to the left. I have just learned to deal with the play since it by no means makes the car un-drivable but I would like an opinion on fixing this from cherokee forum

Sometimes the box can be adjusted but other times the steering box is just worn out and needs replacing. The write up also explains how to determine if other steering parts may be the cause of sloppy steering. In the tech write-up section is an article on using the Durango steering box as a replacement. I just replaced mine using a stock rebuilt from AutoZone, yeaaa, no more slop. Good luck!

Mine has done that twice. The first time the pitman arm was rocking on the shaft a bit, so I added another washer under the nut to take up the slack. Second time was a bad tie rod end on the track bar.
