Default Looking at a jeep, I have questions.

Hey everyone, Im new here.
I looked at a 98 XJ today, I have some questions I hope you guys could answer.

First off, the transmission is leaking, not real bad, but wanting to know what it would cost to fix.

Secondly, Its got a 3in body lift and 31 inch tires, the rides reallly rough. I was driving it on a bumpy gravel road covered in pot holes. Also how can I cut down the rub on the front end?

Third, The ignition doesnt work. Period. He has a push switch hooked up.

Any ideas on how much this crap is gonna cost me?

Thanks.

Well first off you can't body lift a Cherokee. They are a unibody vehicle. So it must have a suspension lift kit

The previous owner more than likely had a coil spring spacer installed on the front, for the rear it's probably add a leaf or shackle. There is no way an XJ can be body lifted. You'll probably need a tranny pan gasket, would be cheap if you did the work yourself. For the ignition, I'd pull one outta a junk yard XJ and have it re keyed.

If its an automatic, they don't use a pan gasket, just RTV. Drain the pan and drop it, clean the pan and trans mating surfaces and degrease. Apply RTV to the pan surface and reinstall.

I used Yamabond, made by Threebond. Its a semi-drying sealer meant for metal to metal and oil. Jeep/Chrysler probably has a similar product.

It'll take 4+ quarts of DexronIII/Mercon and a tube of sealer, so $30 on the high end, IF its the pan.

As for the rub, is it rubbing the fenders or something else?

If you're looking to buy it, I hope its really cheap.

You can buy a decent winch for way less than $500...

I really want to get ahold of a decent XJ for a decent price.
Anyone in Ohio know of any that are around the Chillicothe area for a decent price?

I would offer him $1500 for it as for rubbing if its stock rims I would bet its rubbing the lower control arms not the fender. With 3" 31s clear the stock fender with stock rims (ask me how I know )
