Nerf bars are usually large round tube steps for pickups/SUVs.. They bend/dent easily.
Rock Rails can also be used as steps but are typically smaller tube but much stronger and if made correctly can support the weight of the vehicle when leveraged on a rock/object. I have seen rockrails used as jacking points with a highlift.
