Locked out of the jeep - need a picture of inside of door panels lock mechanism
Howdy fellow Jeepers, came home from a long day at work last night. Woke up this mornin looking all over the whole house for my keys and couldn't find em, went outside - sure enough, right there in the ignition...
So I scoured the internet on how to unlock it WITHOUT calling a locksmith (i'm busted broke) and so far on here I heard of some guy taking the rear hatch window out (how do you do that correctly?) but then found this video on youtube and it seems promising.
I've been "fishing" in my door for 30 minutes now with no luck. Do any of you fabricators have pics of the doors without the panels so I can see where the lock mechanism is? Or will it be impossible with a 94 XJ?
Thanks in advance.

Just grab a similar key that'll fit in the lock(passenger side preferably), and just start jigglin' and turnin'.
I use a key I got in the mail from one of those dealership advertisements "YOU COULD WIN A FREE CAR WITH THIS KEY!!!!" as my "oh **** i'm locked out" key.
I'm surprised they even put locks on these as easy as they are to giggle open with a random key.
Hell, I used the cir rated blade from a swiss army knife one time!

I've seen a picture of this, and there is a short linkage rod that runs from the key cylinder straight down to the locking mechanism. The rod looks like it's about 3 " long, so I'd fish around about 3" below the key cylinder...Good Luck!

here is the pic i hope your looking for. its has none of the stuff connected to it as we were making half doors. but if you see the lever connected to it that just needs to be pulled up. also with the rear window all you have to do is pull and pry on the gasket that touches the window and work your way around till the window comes out. dont worry there is not glue of any type and all youll have to do is work with it to get the window to pop back in. hard on the finger tips but cheaper than a locksmith. hope this helps and good luck to ya.
Tried jiggling a swiss army knife for about 10 minutes, it turns the lock but never unlocked it. Tried fishing some more, no luck. Made a gap on the top of the door and went fishing for the unlock button, 5 minutes later, SUCCESS!

yup, if you ever see a locksmith doing his thing it would probably surprise the hell out of you. If you havent seen it they take a wedge and pull it open ALOT. i mean enough to put your fingers inside the vehicle (a good inch or two) Seen it done to mine and thought they were gonna break my door off the hinges

For future reference you can make an extra key and put it in the gas tank lid where the cap usually goes when your getting gas, it slips in there perfect and you can use a zip-tie to keep it there. I have had one on mine for 2 years and never got locked out yet...Tj
