I went to replace my drivers rear taillight bulb because my parking light doesn't work.I took the bulb out & it was fine.What's causing this?

BTW,I have a trailer wiring that plugs into the stock harness.

 

Check to be sure the socket has power to it using a multimeter?

 

One "running" light out? Bulb and socket OK. On mine, I had problems with the ground. An easy check is to ground the metal part of the socket. I use a long wire right to the bat neg. (but anything to clean metal/ground will work), for testing.

I can never diagnose my own car but I can alot of others.

 

Because the socket is in plastic, it depends on a wire to ground it. I've found mine broken more than once.

 

Well,I didn't test the socket.I don't think thats the problem.I noticed that my front doesn't work either.

Headlight switch?

I looked in my Chiltons book & didn't see any fuse block diagrahm for my '98 XJ.
