Default Lifting the Older Jeep - how much of a PITA?

Hi guys,

I know at this point basically all XJs are "old," but mine is especially old! She's an 87 Wagoneer (not grand) and is in relatively good condition. Minor rocker panel rust (shocker).

I'd like to put in a reasonable 2-3'' lift, as I'm rocking 31s stock height, but they do rub when the wheel is cranked especially hard. And the back ones especially will scrape over something as minor as a big speed bump, so she's useless on anything but groomed trails. But I <3 my big tires, so they're staying! But a lift would certainly improve things.

What am I looking at getting myself into? As with any Jeep project, I'm sure that I will be breaking things in the process of fixing things, but I'd love to hear your horror/success stories about lifting your older vehicles!!

Thanks!

Just did a 4.5 on my 87. Sprayed it will pb blaster for about a week before. Also air tools made it nice. Didnt brake a single bolt though some were stubborn.

did my 87 recently also and started pb blasting a week prior and nothing broke, not even shock mounting bolts.

put on 5" of lift with nothing more then the lift and adjustable trac bar. no vibes and no problems.

well, and longer brake lines. i used the rear flex line and front lines from a wrangler, i think early 90s but i had him bring a couple out and chose the ones that looked most like mine but longer.

Awesome! PB Blaster is this vehicle's best friend.
