liftgate locking mechanism stuck

liftgate locking mechanism stuck

the mechanism that locks the liftgate is stuck. tried wd40 to no avail. key does not want to turn the lock either.

Is this on a 97+? I'm assuming not. They are easy to fix by taking off the interior panel. If it's an older Cherokee I can be of no help.

You can remove the interior panel and move the lock by hand.
