Just wanting to verify what I have read in some of the forums about my liftgate dome light. I have a 2001 Cherokee Classic and all the dome lights work when they are turned on with the light switch and with all the doors except the liftgate. The rear dome light I can push in and out and it clicks so I don't think the dome light switch is bad. Several of the forums said that with this scenario the switch is bad in the latch. Is that what my issue is? Thanks

 

Found my issue. It was in the rear dome light, had burnt plug on the liftgate circuit.

Had similar problem. Wasn't so lucky as to find my own answer. After lots of searching and suggestions I narrowed it down to a faulty grounding mechanism in the hatch latch. That is how the system works. Current is available at the bulbs, but they only operate when the ground is closed at a door switch or in this case the rear hatch latch. Never could fix it. Just grounded the rear dome south of the manual switch on the dome light assy. Just have to remember to turn it off before closing the hatch.
