lift w/ stock wheels
I want to get a 2-3 in lift with some 30 or 31s, but can't afford the lift, tires and rims, etc. all at once. Are there any negatives to getting a lift and having stock wheels and rims in the mean time?

There are no negatives, aside from looks pretty much. You have nothing to worry about, except replacing parts that coincide with the lift height (shocks, track-bar, etc.).

I have a 3 inch with 235/75r15s and it looks decent and has some great flex. If you run 31s on the stock wheels they will rub on the control arms because of improper backspacing....but with stock rims and tires its fine.
