315/75/16 can be broken down as follows...
315 is the width of the tire in millimeters
Convert 315mm to inches => 315mm*(1cm/10mm)*(1inch/2.54cm) = 12.4inches
75 is a percentage of the tire width... 75%*12.4 = 9.3inches
9.3 inches is the side wall height of the tire.
16 is the rim diameter in inches.
To determine total tire diameter, add the rim diameter, plus the tire side wall height twice(because the tire is above and below the rim)...
16 + 9.3 +9.3 = 34.6 inches
Basically it's a 35" tire. I would think lift size would be no less than 5". I'm not positive on that though. I like a considerable amount of tire clearance.

use this: http://www.4lo.com/calc/gearmetric.htm
like said they are nearly a 35
they will fit comfortably on a 4.5" lift, you will have to trim regardless of how high you go.
if you dont wanna go that high they will also fit nice on a 3"
