Here's my issue. Several years ago someone either backed up into my front left signal or intentionally broke the plastic housing and rain got in there and shorted the bulb and wiring. I poured out the water, checked the wiring harness (fried plug), and then proceeded to an Autozone where I purchased the next best replacement available there, which was I believe a GM version. I had to break off a few of the plastic clips on the new plug to get it to fit but it worked, at least for the flashing light but from that night on I never saw it dim again. The right side works perfectly.

So yesterday I decided I'd finally attempt to fix this. I checked the headlight relay under the steering column along with having a quick look at the headlight switch and I can't figure what it could be other than now after writing all this that it could potentially be the socket plug i put in there years ago (???).

So if I may ask what do you guys think could be my problem? I did replace the bulbs many times, and yes with the ones that have the double filament. I'd like my XJ to have it's classic dimmed orange lights on. Right now my XJ is a pirate with only one eye.

Hmmm, maybe I should call him One-eyed Wheeler...

Forgot to mention that the left rear is the same although no water touched that harness/socket plug.
