Default left my drive shaft on the free way need help

so earlier this week i was driving on the free way felt a small vibration and less then a mile later large vibration and the pop next thing i know i see the drive shaft flying through the air.

well got it off the road but the drive shaft was toast as the semi truck ran it over and then a car and so on left it for dead o well

upon further inspection after trailering it home, all that was left from the bell housing on the transfer case was 3 bolts and a 1 inch piece of metal under each bolt

any who no big deal i have another parts truck well i do now have to buy it from a family member who has had it sitting there and small parts no big deal but once i get into the drive line .... time to pony up the cash

any way i digress my question is i am having problems getting the drive shaft to slip onto the output shaft it goes on about 1 inch and just stops i have rotated all the way around different angles but no luck i know its prob cause im frustrated any advice on why this wont go on?

whats the chance i bent the output shaft. output bearings still in good shape.

There's definitely a good chance you bent the output shaft. That much mass spinning fast enough to scoot you down a freeway, has a whole lot of leverage when one end becomes unsecured.

Could the splines on the slip-yoke be different? Sounds like they're not matching up.

i take it you used the tailshaft and the driveshaft both out of the same vehicle... so they should work unless theres something else wrong which would be my guess...

would have loved to have gotten my old drive shaft off the road for something to hang in the garage but it was not safe to get it. i did call caltrans and tell them there was debris in the road. but 91 free way here in so cal at 230 you have just enough people to not allow you to play on the free way it was just around a bend and avrg speed was 75 or so

well im gonna pull the bell housing off the t case and see if it will slip on. its not like i cant get it to go on at all instead it goes on about an inch and then stops like metal running into metal even gives a nice little "Tink"
