Default Left front wheel slip

My 2000 Cherokee's left front wheel slips about an inch in every revolution. I pulled the axle but don't see anything wrong. Is the problem in the differential?

Unless 4wd is engaged, the wheel/axle/differential should all turn freely.

Is the diff full of oil?

What kind of front differential do you have in it? Is is a
stock open differential or has a locker been installed in it?

It is a stock differential as far as I know.

Thats.... Odd sounds like either 4x4 is engaged or maybe a previous owner welded the front diff. But sounds like somethings binding. When you have it in the air try spinning the front wheels and see what happens. I think if 4x4 is activated the wheels wont spin in park. Dont quote me, Wait for another to reply to make sure lol.

Also does it have full time 4x4? if so maybe somethings wrong with that. Its the shift lever that has 2 4x4 hi and then the low. Also i think it even says part time 4x4 and full time.

It was almost undriveable with the left wheel slipping and jerking. I jacked up the left front and that is when I noticed the slippage with every revolution. It was in 2wd, Park and the right wheel was on the ground.

Want to understand this.

So you had it in 2wd, Park, left front jacked up, (three wheels on the ground), engine off or on ?

You turned the wheel by hand and something slipped or jerked?

Broken hub bearing, severely warped rotor?

Thanks for the suggestions. The rotor is ok but I'll have to check out the hub bearing a little more closely. The Jeep is my daughter's and it's a few miles away so I don't have access to it right now. I gave her a loaner to drive, so it's not a hot priority for her! I'll give an update when I check it out.

It was the bearings. I replaced the hub assembly and that took care of the problem.
