LED parking light problem (light out indicators)
Ok, I knew I would be running into the fast/no blink situation with my LED conversion. What I didn't foresee, was that it would be telling me my parking lights are out, in the form of permanently illuminated turn signal indicators. Putting in the LED bulbs also dimmed the side marker bulbs, which will probably be fine when I get those switched to LED, but it is another side effect I noticed.
So I guess I was wondering if there was any way around this...
Easiest solution would probably be to wire in some resistors that will act like the load of an incandescent bulb, but that kind of defeats the whole purpose of switching to LEDs in order to use less power. Instead, it'll straight up be wasted. At least that's how that method seems to work, I'm not too knowledgeable on the whole electronics thing.
What I want to do, is figure out what exactly causes the Jeep to sense a burnt out bulb. Then defeat the "feature" and save that little bit of power like I am trying to do. Just don't have a haynes or chiltons manual yet, so no wiring diagrams to look at.
Anyone else go to LED parking bulbs and solve this problem?
In order to fix the blinker problem, I pulled apart the blinker relay to try and figure it out. However, that will also have to wait until I get a wiring diagram. I tried a HD relay at Napa, but it didn't fix the problem at all. Heard that they were for trailers, and didn't change blinking rates, but that turned out to be incorrect. Unless I just didn't find the right relay. Anyone know of a relay that does fix the blinking issue?
Eventually, I'll have every light on my XJ converted to LED (except for headlights and off-road lights of course, which will be HID to save power consumption). So far the tail lights, blinkers (probably going back to incandescent in parking lights for time being) dome lights and shifter lights are LED. Been testing out e-bay products, and the dome lights I went with I am very happy with, along with the 194 bulbs I chose. The blinkers/parking lights on the other hand, I am not very pleased with. I went with an 18 SMD replacement, and it is not bright enough. I will be replacing them with at least a 60 SMD style in the near future.

I actually just finished up a mock design for new headlights for my 99 xj. I am putting some hella 500's in place of the orignal headlights. I had to make my own set up for the turn signals so i used a piece of lexan to have the signal socket mount onto. I switched to LED amber signal bulbs to avoid heat that would melt the lexan.
Same problem though, I only have done the passanger side, and the pass. side signal like on the dash stays on while i drive, also flashes faster than the other.
I havent been able to find anything out yet, but ill troubleshoot it tomorrow at work.
good luck !

Good luck, Lifted. Hope you get it figured out and pass the info on to me. That or I get it figured out so I can get it passed on to you. Then of course, have the info here for anyone else that tries to do this.
Ordered this today...
So that SHOULD solve the blinking problem without having to put resistors in as a bandaid (which is just a waste of power that I'm trying to save). Now to figure out the light out indicator problem. Probably order a service manual someday soon here to figure out how to fix that one.
I also ordered a new set of 1156 68 SMD replacements. Hoping they will be a lot brighter then the 18 SMDs I currently have. If they are, then I will be ordering some 1157 bulbs of the same type for the front.
Went to order more 36 SMD light panels like I used for the dome lights, but they raised the price by 20 dollars. Glad I bought three of them, got a crazy deal considering the new price. I was so impressed with how bright they are, I was going to attempt to use them as reverse lights. If the 68 SMD 1156 bulbs I ordered seems bright enough, I will test them out and get some more if they work better then the incandescent bulbs. If not, I will either try the 102 SMD lights, or spend the extra on the panels if they prove to be bright enough. Or just get cheaper ones for the interior and use the ones I currently have for the reverse lights. Cause those things are seriously fricken bright. I'll probably also do the aurora reverse light mod to have four reverse lights. Was going to cut some halogen lights into the tail lights, but if LEDs are going to work, then I will do that.
