Question On leave need help quick not much time

I have an 04 grand cherokee with a 4.0. I thought I had a head gasket leak until I started working on it this morning. I found dexcool in the air cleaner box above the intake. Also the crankcase breather tube with the suction was broke. Do I have a head gasket problem or a leak that was being drawn into the crankcase breather tube and shot back into the air cleaner box?? I would like to know if I am wasting my time by changing the head gasket. I am in the military and on leave and I have limited time. If someone has seen this please let me know.

hey brother, Army myslef, lemme tell ya something, a jeep ONLY breaks when your on leave. Trust, its happened alot. Take it to the mech shop, get them to diagnose it, and then fix it yourself. Trust me, its worth the 60 - 80 bucks. Ontario here, if your around I can help.

also just thought of this, watch the colours coming out of your tail pipe, what ever is getting into a combustion chamber oil/antifreeze that gets into your air filter via blow by/back can usually be seen in the exhaust too!

third times the charm. Usually you change a head gasket if you find funny colours in your exhaust or anitfreeze in your oil. just sayin. also leaking out the side of motor and crappy compression or overflow/shared compression among the cylinders.

Nothing in the air filter its self. The housing above the intake had about a cup of dexcool in it. The exhaust looks fine really. I am puzzled man

Default Thanks

I hooked back up the vacuum line that was broke and cleaned out all the coolant from the intake. I sent my wife on a 90 mile trip and then let it run for about another 20 minutes. I pulled it all apart and its dry as a bone. I think it is fixed. How bizare is that????? Thanks guys for trying to help out, I appreciate it.
