Default Leaky Steering Box (with pics)

I have just brought a 1997 2.5 Turbo Diesel. The steering fluid is leaking from the box, would it be worth replacing the seals or raplacing the complete box and arm. It also makes a knocking noise as some points of steering. I have decided to take some pics to show you how it is looking, I can get hold of power steering box with arm, anything else I need? tell me what you think...
The bottom of the box, where the arm comes out, missing seal?

where the arm connects to the rod? not sure if the bolt is bent?

Thanks
Liam

Its not bent its a ball and socket style joint and is designed to pivot. As the knocking noise I'd check all of your tie rod ends and go from there. If not that, check the steering shaft that goes from the steering column to the box. I'd put a seal in first, yea its some work but its cheaper than a new box.

Could the knocking be coming from the steering box?

Is it all pretty stright forward to be changing the seals ourselves?

Thanks

climb under and have some crank the wheel back and worth. take a took at each rod end and the box shaft to see if you see where its coming from. bad rod ends will have play

The seal shouldn't be that difficult, but you are going to need a pitman arm puller. If there is no play in the tie rod ends, jack up the front end until completely off the ground and check ball joints and wheel bearings.
