Knocking, lost all drive gears

Knocking, lost all drive gears
I pulled away from a stop sign and got up to 45mph. Next thing I know I hear a loud and fast knocking. I thought I threw a rod. I pulled the distributor, oil pan, and oil filter, and no metal or rods..Could it be transmission or transfer case. PLEASE HELP............
