Default KJ 231 transfercase to my XJ? is it possible??

my dad replaced the transfercase on his Libery, upon finding out problem he was having was his driveshaft to front diff going bad. Now the transfercase on my Cherokee is going bad, and i was curious if i could use his old one which is in perfect working order on my truck.

both cases are NP 231 J with a 272 gear ratio. i have not yet observed the donor transfercase to confirm matchup components and electrical connectors, this will happen within the next few days.

anyone have any insight on the matter?

Shouldn't be an issue, but what year is your Jeep? If it's an older model ('89 or '90, for instance) then you'd probably need to find out if your speedo gear would interchange since it'd be a cable driven speedo. Since both cases are NP-231J, then I can't think of any other reason there shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure of the input length and splines would match though. And the bolt pattern on the transfer case may differ a bit.

I would assume if they're both "J" models, they should be the same....Could be wrong, though.
