Are the keys chipped in my 01 cherokee? also door fob reprogram question
Ok I have two questions
1. Are the keys chipped in my 2001 Cherokee sport?
2. How to reprogram extra door fobs?
Thanks for any help

The keys are not chipped, good luck on programing new fobs, far as I know you have to get fobs made specifically for your vehicle from a dealer. I think they just match one up with your VIN.

Your keys are chipped. Any good locksmith can make keys and program your car to accept the new keys.
I have aftermarket alarm so I do not have normal fobs.

...holy misinformation batman!
1) Your Keys are NOT chipped.
2) The FOB is not the element that gets programmed. Your Keyless entry system (the computer portion in the overhead) gets re-programmed to accept new/different FOB codes. This can not be done without specialty systems. The dealer will generally charge you around $75.
If you are acquiring FOBs from a donor XJ, you can also swap out the donor Power-Lock board (again, in the overhead) with your own (assuming compatible Models) and you won't need to deal with the dealer.
