Default keyless issue...''97-'98

my '97 xj is running all '98 electrical, engine, and trans.

the '98 had power windows and locks. the '97 didn't. it's also a 5 speed now, thanks to the '98 update.

the only wiring that didn't get swapped to '98 was the headliner wiring, because I didn't feel like removing literally every piece of trim. the '98 has been scrapped, and I didn't bother yanking that stuff.

Anyways, I'm wondering what is used in '98 as a method of recieving input signals from the keyless entry remote/fob.

the PO of the '98 said it had keyless, but he lost the remote (along with the original keys).

I need to know what I need to add to it so that I can get keyless working. also need to know which style of remote to get...the old square style, or the newer peanut looking one.

heads up...don't bother responding if you think telling me anything for renix era or '91-'96 xj's. it won't help me, they're not even close to the same operating systems, and their keyless recievers will be different in themselves, if not in concept of how they work.

Thanks,

Pat
