Hey guys.

I have a huge dilemma right now. Last week, my keyless entry for my 2001 Cherokee stopped working. We have two remotes and one of them still works. I just bought a new remote off ebay, and I cannot program it to work with my vehicle. I have read online that you need a DSM III scan tool to do this. I brought it to a local shop today and they could not do it. They said to bring it to the Jeep dealer. I headed over to the local Jeep dealer, and they said that it would cost $49 to get the new remote programmed, with no guarantees of it working. The guy there was even questioning whether it was the right thing.

Is there any way at all that I can program this on my own. Can I reset the computer somehow? Please help... Otherwise, advice as to where I could get this done CHEAP would be great!

$49 isn't bad... BMW wanted $150 for a remote reprogram in my old 323.

I gotta think there is a way to do it, but I'm not sure what it is. Hopefully someone will chime in. With any luck, it won't be as involved as the procedure for my BMW, which had me opening and closing doors, sitting in seats, and changing key positions in a specific order to put it into 'learning' mode.

thanks for the link. I am gonna try this. Does anybody know any other methods of how to do this? I am reading something about hooking up a hotwire from one port to another on the DLC which can be found underneath the dash. I'm wondering if this will work.

$49 doesn't sound bad. What does sound bad is the fact that if the programming does not work at te dealership, they will still make me pay the $49. I really would like to have a guarantee of it working.
