Default Key FOB not unlocking

Good afternoon. I have an issue that just recently started on my 2000 Cherokee XJ. One day my key FOB would not unlock the doors, so I went and bought new batteries, but still no luck.
I also noticed that sometimes even when I try to unlock the doors manually from the driver's side I have to click it to lock then unlock to get it to work. I'm assuming that maybe the problem is in the driver's controls, but I just replaced it about a month ago to make it so the passenger side controls would be able to put the window up and down (because of the issue I read here about the widow lock problem).
Anyway, is there anything I can try to fix the remote lock issue? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Not sure about you actual issue when manually unlocking, but I just recently had a similar issue with my key fob. There is a small metal tab inside the key fob that needs to make contact when the key fob is assembled i.e. after battery replacement.

Mine was not making contact with opposite side of the key fob. A little bending to allow for proper contact and my key fob has worked fine since.

Awesome! I saw that tab! I'll check it out. Thanks!

FYI for anyone looking at this because your fobs are not working: Ensure you have qty 2 of CR2016 batteries installed in the fob and NOT just 1 CR2032. The fob works on 6 volts per the service manual and 3 volts will cause it to work intermittently and/or not at all. This is only for the fob and RKE, the door switches should work regardless.

I’ve been trying to figure out why my FOB and the FOB for my wife’s Grand Cherokee won’t work despite having new batteries. Thanks for this info.

The front passenger side switch has the control relay for the power door locks .
