Be searched for an answer but couldn't find one so here it goes. My 98 XJ runs great (for now) but when I turn it off a lot of the time the key will not come out unless I push the shift forward. When I push the shifter forward there is a audible click and then the key releases. I'm figuring that it's obviously something to do with the shifter but I have no clue as to what it could be. Any suggestions on what it could be and how to fix it? Also, I've been noticing that my transmission is shifting really hard lately. Don't know if it's related.

No. And to be honest, I don't know where that's that. I'll look it up in my new Haynes manual. This is the first of my Cherokees through the years to have any sort of transmission problems.
