Hi guys my XJ finally got here after 3 weeks, I bought it for $800...Its a 91 with 120k Miles a 6.5 Rough country lift and some winch bumper there . The Jeep needs a steering box, has anyone ever pulled one off. I plan on going to the junkyard tomorow to take one but does anyone have advice on how to take it off. Would I need airtools?? What would I need to take off first?? Any advice will be appreciated thanks....

If you're gonna yank the steering box for replacement, why not replace it with the Durango box upgrade? There's a tech write up on here somewhere...
Is that a dealer price?? Try a different source for your parts, that is crazy expensive!! You should be able to pick one up for around $200.00, plus a core fee, but you'll get that back. Shop around, that quoted price is waaay too much!! Keep us posted!!

If you pull the air box you can gain access to the lines going into the steering box and loosen them up first. Sometimes these lines get stuck to the box so you will need new ones. The high pressure line is a dealer only part but the low pressure will be at many stores.
Then remove the bolt holding the steering shaft to the steering box. Be sure to remove the bolt completely and not just loosen it.
Then remove the 3 bolts that run through the "frame" and remove the box. There is an aluminum spacer that will most likely fall out as well and remember to put it back in CORRECTLY.
A steering box can run from 200 to 300 depending on the store.
