thinking about doing my own lift but im just curious how much everyone has spent on a junkyard lift or making packs. i know not every jy charges the same and i know some parts are freebies but i dont know anyone in my area thats into jeeps therefore no free parts! so im trying to figure out if the money saved is worth not buying a new lift

well, for the rear, you're looking at about 100 bux for a set of s-10 leafs, 50 bux for new u-bolts (you can cheap out here and probably get a set for 10 bux at wal mart).
then you need new center pins and spring wraps/clamps. maybe 10 bux here.
tnen you need a good drill bit to drill out your main leaf center hole and a couple cutting discs to cut off the eyelets from the s-10 leafs.

then you need longer shocks.
yhis is just for the rear, so you'll have to get lift coils for the front. so maybe some used rough country coils.

Damn your leafs are expensive I dropped $50 on my set of leafs for the pair. Autozone has a set of 4 grade 8 ubolts for $25. Centering pins in hardened steel at the hardware store run $10 with nuts.

S10 leafs: $10 each at pull-a-part
$5 for new bolts
$30 for new u-bolts

ZJ V8 coils $40 (would have been less if I went to pull-a-part
1.75" coil spacer $30
new shocks $150
adj trackbar $130

Total: $395 so figure about 400 bucks

So far I have

$10 for MJ shackles from jy
$35 for S10 leafs from jy
$43 for new bushings
$30 for coil spacers
~$10 for center pins

so like $130ish thus far. Need to pick up some new ubolts and jy brakelines.

I also bought an angle grinder and drill bits, but I don't count tools. They are an investment

Have you thought about doing the shackles from advance auto/autozne? They're like 30 bucks I think I'm goin to use those. I haven't heard anything bad about them

Thought about it, but I am not look for a big gain. 2" is all I am really looking for and saving the rest of the S10 pack for later. My current springs are basically flat so I am looking for a cheap way to put some arch back in them and be able to carry some weight in the rear without overworking the stock springs. We will see how it goes. Saving for an engagement ring but still trying to feed the jeep bug.

For the rear shocks use your stock rear sway bar end links to make bar pin eliminators and use the stock shocks should be fine with 2" of lift brake lines off of almost any truck. In the front take a tape measure for the shocks, gm 1500 4wd 90s pickup brake lines.

Rear leafs you could use a set off of a heavy half or heavy 3/4t. I used a set off of a heavy 3/4 ditched all the overloads and using the main leafs gained 3" and a whole hell of a lot of weight handling. Rides a little stiff but with 1200 or so lbs in it I only lost 1/2" of lift.
