I have a 2000 XJ and need to replace the computer. Do I have to use one from another 2000 or are their other years that are compatible? Also, when I switch them out, what other steps do I need to complete? Or is it as simple as unlugging the old and plugging in the new?

Stay with a 2000 or '01 ECU. There were engineering changes from previous years that could cause issues with an earlier unit. Make sure you have a code reader or scan tool available to diagnose any issues and clear codes that may be in the replacement unit.
